"Creating art settles the noise from the outside world and is a form of meditation for me"

Nan Jones creates art because it brings her joy. Since childhood she has been captivated by various artistic styles and methods because they allow her tap into her imagination and express herself. She can still remember the way it made her feel the first time she used oil pastels — the way they effortlessly slid across paper felt like magic.

Nan is a contemporary, full-time artist working from her cottage studio in Raleigh, NC. An observer of nature and life, she approaches each piece with an intuitive process allowing her art to form and reform as many times as it takes to feel just right. Texture and layering are the cornerstones of her work. She also doesn’t shy away from large amounts of paint and loves to incorporate gestural marks, which add interest and dimension. Nan’s work has been featured in several collectives and galleries across the Southeast and homes around the world.

Nan grew up in Charlotte but has lived in Raleigh a good part of her adult life. In addition to her canine studio companion, Oliver, Nan is supported by her husband and best friend, Todd and their two children, McCrea and Camp.
